Ruth´s Safari  - Kenya

7 days in November 2014


This safari will take you to many famous and beautiful places in Kenya like; Rift Valley, Maasai Mara Game reserve, Lake Victoria and Nakuru national park to mention some of them. It also take you to Kitale to see Ruth´s project - it´s also and advantage of seeing the most beautiful country site. In Masai Mara you almost have a guarantee to see all the Big five; Cheetah, Lion, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. Lake Nakuru is famous for it’s the home of thousands of lesser and Greater pink flamingos, also you can find over 400 spices of birds. Lake Naivasha is a fresh water lake and it’s only the lake along the Rift Valley with inlet, but without outlet.

                                          THE SAFARI DAY BY DAY


DAY 1, Nairobi - Masai Mara

On arrival to your airport in Nairobi you are met by your safari guides whom you will find waiting for you at the international arrival wing, announced by a notice board with the name, www.flamingosafari.com.   At the airport you can take out local currency from the ATM (mini bank). Also you can take out your cash from anywhere since there are many Mini banks in the country. We will do a short stop at Savannah café in Nairobi before we start our tour to Masai Mara. Here you can have a cup of Kenyan coffee, fresh juice or some snacks while Daniel gives you a short briefing about the Safari.


From the airport we drive straight to North western side, at one point driving through Italian road which was built during 2nd world war by Italian prisoners of the war. Here you will stop for a panoramic view and take photographs of the Great Rift Valley. Then we proceed up to town of Narok, stopping for fuel, toilet, and stretch our legs. From Narok we go through Loita plains on avery rough road for approx. 100 km and into Mara national game reserve arriving our lodge in good time for lunch.

DAY 2, Masai Mara full day

Today will be a full day game drive in The Maasai Mara Game Reserve. You will have a picnic-lunch in the wilderness. We will visit the border mark between Kenya and Tanzania and you will be so close to the border that you can step into Tanzanian side. You will see the Mara River with hippos and crocodiles.  The Maasai Mara Game Reserve has the largest concentration of animals in Kenya and in the northern part of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park.

Day 3, Masai Mara – Kisumu

Today we have a long drive up to Kisumu appr 420 km. Ready with our packed lunch boxes from the hotel, we will leave early in the morning and will pass through small villages and we will see a scenic landscape. Side to side you will be seeing small-scale farmers in this very densely populated Kisii district. We will stop in Kericho for a short break. Kericho is the main town for tea production-zone in Kenya, and you will see enormous tea plantation farms. Kisumu is the third largest city in Kenya with a total population of about 250,000 persons. It is a port city and a terminal to the Ugandan Railway. In the afternoon we relax in our hotel. The hotel has swimming pool and the chef Julius is one of the best in Kisumu.

Day 4, Boat Safari on Lake Victoria - Kitale

Early in the morning (by 5.30 o clock) we will leave the hotel and get in to the small boats, which will take us on sail along the Lake Victoria. We will see the sunrise from the boats, an unbelievable experience. There is no place with more beautiful sunrise and sunset than Kisumu. The local guides from The Palicon tours will tell us about the life in and around the lake. The lake has been a victim of a huge environmental crime and the lakes future is very uncertain. We will have a picnic breakfast in the boats, returning back to the hotel for lunch at noon.


After lunch (1pm) we will drive up to Kitale via the town Eldoret. Total distance to drive to Kitale is approx 170 km. Eldoret is currently the fastest growing town in Kenya with a population around 300 000. The town is home to Moi university and is also famous for its cheese factory. From there we proceed to Kitale town arriving in the afternoon. Kitale is small compared with Eldoret with a population around 110 000. Kitale is among the most diverse towns in the country.


We will drive straight to Goseta primary school and Ruth´s project. At Ruth´s project there will be photo-sessions. In the evening dinner at your hotel.

Day 5, Kitale – Nakuru

After breakfast we drive straight to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arriving to Bontana Hotel we pick our packed lunch boxes and proceed to the main gate to Lake Nakuru National Park and check in. We proceed on game drve. Nakuru is the fourth largest city of Kenya and is situated 1858 m above the sea level. Lake Nakuru is a salt-water lake and is the home of thousands of pink flamingos. You may also see the lion, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, wide rhino and more than 400 spices of birds! We will have picnic lunch in the park.

Day 6, Nakuru - Naivasha

This day our drive is not long, after breakfast we leave Nakuru at 10am and drive straight to Naivasha. Naivasha will be the last place to visit on this adventure safari. We will arrive in good time for lunch. There are plenty of activities for you to do from this Lodge. Boat ride, visit Hells gate, bird watching, Horse ride, such that you can choose what to do which will attract extra charge.

Day 7, Naivasha – Nairobi

This last day in Kenya there is a chance for you to do an excursion in Nairobi. Visiting Karen Blixen and Kazuri beats factory is an excellent option. Lunch place will depend on your selection of the place, there are several places like Karen Coffee garden it is one. Also depending on your departure flight timetable, you may have dinner in one of the many good restaurants in Nairobi. Like Italian Restaurant down town Trattoria or Ole Sereni close to the airport. After dinner your safari driver guide will take you to the airport for your International departure flight back home from home Kenya.
